About the Writer

Sully MonsterHello! I’m Michelina Matozzi-Sullivan, a High School English Teacher at a high school in Western Illinois. The previous three years before my current school I was at a small, rural school in the area where I coached cheerleading and track (both Junior High and High School levels). However, my experience goes beyond our small school as I have also worked at suburban schools in the Chicago area before moving to the Quincy area.

I was not always a teacher…Instead, I attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois where I double-majored in Communication-Media and Public Relations. I ended up working in sales and found that over-the-phone sales just wasn’t my speed. It was then that I focused on what I was passionate about – reading and writing. I had many great and fond memories of the English teachers I had throughout my education and I decided that I wanted to have the same impact on young people’s lives. From that point I decided to go back to school and earn my Masters degree in Secondary Education teaching English.

I am always looking for new novels to bring to the classroom, and my own bookshelves, wanting to inspire creativity in my students and I also want to travel the world. While the first two are always met with roadblocks, I try to find ways around them. The third, however, I keep waiting to win the lottery so that I can add to my travels. (So much easier if I actually played 🙂 but one day I will.) Until then though, I look to exchange ideas and see how things work in other classrooms and schools and share with you my own experiences.

Being passionate about books you can check out my list of books that I’ve read and what I am currently reading here. Any suggestions on books that you have read and enjoyed are always welcome!

  1. Michelina, I have a book coming out later this year called One of the Few. I would love for you to give it a read. Let me know if you would be interested in doing a review. http://www.jasonbladd.com
